With the Grade 12 final examinations just around the corner, the North West Department of Education took a proactive step by organizing an inter-denominational intercessory provincial examination prayer. The event, hosted at Botoka Secondary School in Ikageng, Potchefstroom, on Thursday, October 19, 2023, brought together various faith-based organizations to seek divine guidance for the students.

MEC Viola Motsumi led the gathering, emphasizing the importance of spiritual guidance during this crucial period for the Grade 12 candidates. “With only 10 days left until the final exams, we believe that coming together to seek divine intervention can provide the students with the strength and confidence they need to succeed,” said MEC Motsumi.
The inter-denominational prayer event was a testament to the unity and support of the community for its young learners. Representatives from different faith-based organizations offered prayers for the candidates, wishing them success in their upcoming examinations.

The provincial examination prayer was paired with a significant commitment from Grade 12 candidates. Students from schools throughout the North West province willingly and solemnly signed a pledge. In doing so, they promised to uphold the integrity of the exams by refraining from any form of malfeasance.
By signing this pledge, students demonstrated their unwavering adherence to the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination Code of Conduct. This code stipulates their commitment to truthfulness, refraining from cheating, and using illegal materials in the examination rooms, and a dedication to protecting the integrity of the examination process.
MEC Viola Motsumi explained the intention behind the pledge signing: “The rationale for the pledge is to commit every learner to comply with the examination code of conduct, so that it assists in curbing and controlling examination irregularities.”
Motsumi continued, “Maintain your composure and keep your sights set on your objective, knowing that you have all the support of the department, your family, friends, educators, and the rest of the community. For the last 12 years, you have been preparing for this moment. Allow nothing to get in your way. I wish you good luck in your examination.”

The Department of Education in North West also emphasized its commitment to maintaining strict control over the various locations where examination papers are stored. This precaution is aimed at ensuring the security and integrity of the examination process.
The combination of spiritual support through the intercessory prayer and the commitment to maintaining ethical standards through the pledge signing reflects the community’s determination to see the Grade 12 candidates through this critical phase of their academic journey. The North West Department of Education is dedicated to providing a conducive and fair examination environment for all students.
