North West Government to build 5000 RDP houses


The North West Department of Human Settlements will build over 5000 houses in the current financial year of 2023-2024 across all four districts.
MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs PDN Maloyi made the announcement when delivering his departmental budget vote at the provincial legislature this morning.


MEC Maloyi acknowledged the successes recorded by his department in the previous financial year by building and completing 3918 houses against 4879 houses they had planned. He said that he is expecting more delivery in this financial as he will be working day and night to ensure that his department deliver on promises made to the people of the North West.
“For this financial year we are going to work more smatter, faster and ensuring more quality. We are going to ensure that we deal with all challenges and deliver as planned. We will be monitoring performance in all project in conjunction with all municipalities in the province. Coordination with all stakeholders will be key and that will ensure that district development model is implemented as planned,” said MEC Maloyi.


The department has also planned to install internal services before it can begin with foundations or putting top structures. According to the department, this approach will respond to the call made by Premier Bushy Maape that new human settlements projects should be delivered in an integrated manner, allocated to rightful beneficiaries and built in areas where there are internal services and bulk infrastructure.
The department further pride itself for registering success in installing services in 7245 sites across the province, exceeding its target of 6364 in the previous financial year, at a cost of R883 million. For this the department will continue to service sites in all its planned projects.
