The North West Provincial Legislature’s Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA), chaired by Hon. Smuts Matshe, will on Thursday, 04 September 2025, hold virtual Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) public hearings with three municipalities to account for their 2023/24 financial year audit outcomes.

The hearings will focus on the implementation of post-audit action plans, particularly regarding unauthorised, irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure in the municipalities of Maquassi Hills, Mamusa, and JB Marks.

According to the Legislature, the sessions are part of strengthening oversight and ensuring accountability in municipal financial management. The committee expects the municipalities to outline measures being taken to address audit findings and to improve governance and service delivery.

The MFMA public hearings are scheduled as follows:
10h00 – 12h00: Maquassi Hills Local Municipality
12h30 – 14h30: Mamusa Local Municipality
15h00 – 17h00: JB Marks Local Municipality
The Legislature has encouraged members of the public and stakeholders to follow the proceedings online as part of promoting transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
