North West Media Awards Introduces Social Media Influencer of the Year Category

The North West Media Awards launched its annual edition with a notable addition: the introduction of the Social Media Influencer of the Year category. Held at the prestigious Orion Safari Hotel, the event also marked the unveiling of the awards’ official website, www.northwestmediaawards.org.za/sp, aimed at facilitating seamless nominations and community voting. Hosted by the renowned comedian, Jones Blaq Gzus Modibane, the launch was meant to highlight the plans building up to the main event.

Ananias Ndlovu, Chairperson of the North West Media Awards, emphasized the significance of the new category, designed to honor individuals who leverage their social media platforms to create positive impacts within their communities. This category joins a diverse lineup of fifteen awards that recognize excellence across various media domains.

Judging Categories include prestigious accolades such as:

  • Journalist of the Year: Recognizing exemplary integrity and impact in journalism.
  • Photographer of the Year: Celebrating excellence in visual storytelling.
  • Newspaper of the Year: Honoring publications that inform and inspire.
  • Newsletter of the Year: Acknowledging excellence in digital communication.
  • Radio Current Affairs Programme of the Year: Highlighting excellence in broadcasting current events.
  • Communicator of the Year: Awarded to those effectively conveying complex ideas to the public.
  • Poloko Tau Investigative News Story of the Year: Recognizing groundbreaking investigative journalism.

Voting Categories empower the community to decide winners in categories such as:

  • Newsreader of the Year: Recognizing clarity and engagement in news delivery.
  • Radio Programme of the Year: Celebrating outstanding radio programming.
  • Radio Producer of the Year: Acknowledging creativity behind-the-scenes.
  • Radio Presenter of the Year: Honoring charismatic and informative radio hosts.
  • Sports Presenter of the Year: Highlighting excellence in sports broadcasting.
  • Community Radio Station of the Year: Celebrating stations dedicated to local engagement.
  • Social Media Platform of the Year: Recognizing impactful online presence.
  • Online Media House of the Year: Awarding excellence in digital media production.

The launch event saw a diverse array of stakeholders, including representatives from government departments, NGOs, NPOs, municipalities, and businesses from the Private Sector, underscoring widespread support for the North West Media Awards.

Scheduled for December 6, 2024, the awards ceremony promises to be a culmination of excellence in media. Nominations open on June 1, 2024, closing on June 30, 2024, with nominees announced on July 16, 2024. Community members can cast their votes from August 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024, contributing to the celebration of outstanding achievements in media.
