North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi delivered the 2025 State of the Province Address (SOPA) at the North West Provincial Legislature, outlining the government’s achievements, challenges, and plans for the year ahead.

In his address, Premier Mokgosi emphasized the province’s economic recovery efforts, infrastructure development, job creation, and service delivery improvements. He acknowledged the economic setbacks caused by global and national financial pressures but assured residents that the provincial government remains committed to economic growth and social development.

Economic Growth and Job Creation

Premier Mokgosi announced several initiatives to boost the provincial economy, including partnerships with the mining, agriculture, and tourism sectors. He highlighted job creation programs aimed at addressing the high unemployment rate, particularly among youth and women.

“The North West is rich in natural resources, and we are leveraging our strengths in mining, agriculture, and tourism to create sustainable employment opportunities,” said Mokgosi.

The Premier also unveiled plans to support small businesses and cooperatives, with funding and mentorship programs aimed at empowering entrepreneurs.

Infrastructure Development and Service Delivery

The provincial government is set to roll out major infrastructure projects, including road rehabilitation, water supply improvements, and housing developments. Mokgosi acknowledged persistent service delivery challenges but assured residents that efforts are underway to address water shortages, electricity disruptions, and road maintenance issues.

“Our government is prioritizing key infrastructure projects that will improve the quality of life for our people,” he stated, adding that budget allocations will focus on repairing and upgrading critical infrastructure.

Education and Healthcare Improvements

Mokgosi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to quality education by announcing plans to build new schools, improve existing facilities, and enhance teacher training programs. He also highlighted efforts to strengthen the province’s healthcare system by investing in new clinics, upgrading hospitals, and ensuring the availability of essential medicines and medical staff.

“We are committed to ensuring that no child is left behind and that our healthcare system provides quality services to all,” said the Premier.

Crime Prevention and Social Development

Addressing crime and social issues, Premier Mokgosi said the government is working closely with law enforcement agencies to combat crime, corruption, and gender-based violence. He also announced increased support for social welfare programs to assist vulnerable communities.

A Call for Unity and Cooperation

In closing, Premier Mokgosi called for collaboration between the government, private sector, and community organizations to achieve the province’s development goals.

“The challenges we face are significant, but together, we can build a better North West for all. I urge all stakeholders to work with us in making our province a place of growth, opportunity, and prosperity,” he concluded.

The address was attended by government officials, traditional leaders, business representatives, and members of civil society, who will now await the implementation of the Premier’s outlined plans.
