North West Province Celebrates Impressive Matric Results

In a moment of triumph for North West Province, MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, proudly announced that the region secured the fourth position in the National Matric Results with an impressive 81.63% pass rate. The announcement took place at the Sun City Resort, where MEC Motsumi expressed her determination to ascend to the top, with Western Cape as the first victim and setting her sights on surpassing Gauteng next.

The breakdown of the matric results revealed a notable achievement for the North West School for the Deaf, which saw a remarkable increase from a 0% pass rate in 2022 to a commendable 66% in 2023.

Diverse Success in Matric Categories

The matric results for 2023 showcased a positive trend, with 32 schools achieving a perfect 100% pass rate, compared to 26 in the previous year. Additionally, 275 schools achieved a pass rate ranging from 80 to 99%, demonstrating an overall improvement from the 234 schools in 2022.

The top-performing schools were recognized across three categories: highest number of subject distinctions, highest number of candidates eligible for admission to Bachelor studies, and the overall highest pass rate.

Highest Subject Distinctions:

1. Potchefstroom Gimnasium – 301 distinctions
2. Rustenburg High School – 308 distinctions
3. Wesvalia High School – 203 distinctions

Subject Distinctions Percentage (80-100%):

1. Potchefstroom Girls High – 27.95%
2. Ferdinand Postma – 24.19%
3. Potchefstroom Gimnasium – 22.84%

Admission to Bachelor Degree Studies:

1. Lighthouse Christian School – 96.43%
2. Ferdinand Postma – 94.64%
3. Wesvalia High School – 91.34%

1. Rustenburg High School – 220 out of 301 candidates
2. B.A Seobi Secondary School – 186 out of 246 candidates
