North West Province athletes are once again commanding the spotlight at the Comrades Marathon, with Tete Dijana and Edward Mothibi now leading the race as the 2025 “down run” enters its final stretch.
Earlier in the race, rising star Onalenna Khokhobe from Sekhing near Taung showed incredible form, setting a fierce early pace through Camperdown. But as the kilometers wore on and the field began to settle, it was the experience and endurance of Dijana and Mothibi that came to the fore. Khokhobe has since fallen off the lead group, but his bold performance earned widespread admiration.
Tete Dijana, the defending champion from Mahikeng, is eyeing a historic third consecutive victory. Running with trademark composure and strategic precision, Dijana now looks in full control of the elite men’s race. Alongside him is Edward Mothibi, the 2019 champion from Marikana, whose steady pacing and tactical awareness have seen him surge back into contention as the runners descend toward Durban
