NWU Business School Launches PhD Hub for Africa to Drive Transformational Research

The North-West University (NWU) Business School has taken a bold step in advancing doctoral education across the continent with the official launch of the PhD Hub for Africa. This pioneering initiative, unveiled during the International Conference on Green and Sustainable Development at the Kigali Serena Hotel, aims to cultivate world-class doctoral talent and strengthen research supervision expertise.

With a strong legacy of producing influential doctoral candidates, the PhD Hub aligns with the NWU Business School’s mission of Shaping Executive Minds in Africa. It is designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry by fostering a new generation of thought leaders, innovators, and impactful researchers. The initiative specifically targets industry professionals, emerging scholars pursuing a PhD in Business Administration, and academic supervisors seeking to enhance their mentorship capabilities.

Professor Joseph Sekhampu, Chief Director of the NWU Business School, highlighted the Hub’s significance in elevating the quality and impact of doctoral research across Africa. “This initiative is a bold step towards strengthening Africa’s research capabilities and shaping the future of business leadership on the continent. By creating a platform for rigorous scholarship and high-impact research, we are not only empowering doctoral candidates but also fostering sustainable solutions to Africa’s business and economic challenges,” he said.

The PhD Hub will also play a crucial role in the NWU Business School’s internationalisation strategy, forging collaborations with African and global academic institutions, industry leaders, and policymakers. These partnerships will ensure that African business research remains globally competitive while addressing the continent’s unique economic and social realities.

By providing world-class mentorship, research resources, and exposure to international best practices, the PhD Hub aims to produce doctoral research that is both academically rigorous and practically transformative. This initiative is expected to drive meaningful change in Africa’s economic and managerial landscape, equipping scholars and business executives with the tools to develop innovative, sustainable solutions.

The NWU Business School invites potential PhD candidates, academic supervisors, and industry experts to become part of this transformative initiative.
