Orbit College FC Secures PSL Promotion, Making History for North West Province

History was made at Olympia Park Stadium on Wednesday afternoon as Orbit College FC secured their place in the DStv Premiership, becoming the first club from the North West Province to reach top-flight football.

The crucial 1–0 victory over Cape Town City in the final PSL promotion playoff game sealed Orbit College’s promotion, sending thousands of supporters into wild celebration across Rustenburg. The match-winner came just two minutes into the second half, courtesy of a clinical finish by striker Letsie Koapeng, who capitalized on a well-placed cross to slot the ball past the goalkeeper.

“This victory is not just for Orbit College FC, it’s for the entire North West Province,” said head coach Pogiso Makhoye after the match. “We’ve worked hard for this moment, and now we’re ready to take on the challenge of the PSL.”

Among the high-profile attendees was North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi, who hailed the achievement as a turning point for football in the province. “The Provincial Government is behind this team all the way,” Mokgosi said. “We will work closely with stakeholders to improve sports infrastructure and ensure that Orbit College has everything it needs to succeed at the highest level.”

Rustenburg Executive Mayor, Shiela Mabale-Huma, expressed her pride and readiness: “Rustenburg is ready to host PSL matches. The city is already abuzz with excitement and we look forward to welcoming teams from across the country.”

Her sentiments were echoed by Bojanala Platinum District Municipality Executive Mayor, Susan Nthangeni, who confirmed that the municipality has set aside over R1 million for sports development, including support for Orbit College’s top-tier ambitions.

Celebrations continued at Olympia Park Stadium

The win sparked emotional scenes at Olympia Park, with fans from Tswaing, Matlosana, Moretele, Madibeng and all corners of the province waving flags, singing, and celebrating Orbit’s rise to the Premier Soccer League.

Orbit College FC will now prepare for their first season in the DStv Premiership, and with strong backing from government, local municipalities, and passionate supporters, they are poised to carry the hopes of a province hungry for football glory.
