POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT AFTER ARMED ROBBERS DISGUISED IN WOMAN’S CLOTHING STRIKE IN MARIKANA

Police in Marikana have launched an intensive manhunt after a daring armed robbery took place outside a popular liquor store on Tuesday afternoon, 04 November 2025. The incident, which has shocked local residents, involved four suspects — one of whom was disguised in women’s clothing, wearing a dress and a wig.

According to police reports, two employees from a cash-in-transit company were conducting routine cash collections at a liquor store located within the Marikana Complex. One security officer entered the store to collect the cash while the driver remained in the vehicle.

As the officer returned and approached the cash-in-transit van, he was ambushed by two armed assailants. One of the suspects, dressed as a woman, allegedly disarmed the officer by swiftly removing his service firearm from its holster. The second suspect was reportedly dressed in a white T-shirt.

Shortly thereafter, two more armed suspects joined in, bringing the total number of robbers to four. The group seized an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene on foot toward the nearby railway line.

The victims immediately notified police. It has also emerged that the liquor store owner indicated the cash collection had originally been scheduled for Saturday but was delayed to Tuesday, the day of the attack.

Police are now appealing to members of the public for assistance. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the robbery is urged to contact Marikana SAPS Detective Commander, Captain Tlou, on 082 772 7810, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, or make use of the My SAPS App. All information provided will be treated as strictly confidential.

Acting Bojanala Platinum Sub-District Commissioner, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, condemned the incident, highlighting the dangerous and calculated nature of the robbery.

“The safety of security personnel and the public remains our top priority. We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice. We call upon community members to assist police by sharing any information that may lead to a swift arrest,” said Brigadier Ntoagae.
