Positive Start to 2024 Academic Year in North West as Education Department Prioritizes Quality Learning

Schools across the North West province have opened their doors to learners for the 2024 academic year, marking a positive start for education in the region. MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, and Premier Bushy Maape commenced the academic year with a visit to Dingake Primary School in Verdwaal, near Itsoseng, witnessing firsthand the enthusiasm and commitment to learning.

MEC Motsumi expressed her delight at the vibrant atmosphere at Dingakwe, stating, “The high attendance and enthusiasm among both learners and educators are a testament to the dedication of our school communities and the importance placed on education in the North West.”

Premier Maape echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the significant progress made in ensuring access to quality education for all learners. He highlighted Dingakwe Primary as one of 300 pilot schools participating in a groundbreaking breakfast program, extending to 1321 schools across the province for lunchtime meals. This initiative aims to ensure learners attend school nourished and ready to learn.

Dingakwe Primary, with its 571 learners, stands as a model of the diverse and thriving school communities across the North West. The school’s involvement in the breakfast program is a pivotal step toward addressing food insecurity and fostering a conducive learning environment for all students.

During the visit, MEC Motsumi and Premier Maape commended teachers and support staff for their tireless efforts in preparing for the new year. They encouraged learners to embrace the opportunities ahead and maximize their education.

The North West Department of Education reiterates its commitment to providing quality education for all learners in the province. With a promising start to the new year, the department is confident in building on past successes and creating a brighter future for education in the North West.
