Premier Mokgosi Visits Family of Fallen Soldier in Mahikeng

North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi, accompanied by Members of the Executive Council and the Executive of the Mahikeng Ministers Fellowship, paid a solemn visit to the family of the late Lance Bombardier Itumeleng Moreo at Extension 39 in Mahikeng.

Lance Bombardier Moreo was among the fourteen South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers who tragically lost their lives while serving in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Their mortal remains were received by President Cyril Ramaphosa at Swartkop Air Force Base before being handed over to their respective families in a dignified ceremony.

During the visit, Premier Mokgosi extended his heartfelt condolences to the Moreo family, friends, and colleagues, acknowledging the profound loss they have suffered. “This is a difficult time of mourning for the Moreo family and the entire province. We honor Lance Bombardier Moreo for his service and sacrifice in the pursuit of peace,” said Mokgosi.

Family spokesperson Jerry Moreo expressed gratitude for the Premier’s visit, stating that the family has come to terms with their loss. “The visit brings us some relief and comfort, knowing that our pain is shared by the leadership of the province and the people of South Africa,” he said.

Lance Bombardier Moreo’s passing marks a tragic reminder of the sacrifices made by South African soldiers deployed on peacekeeping missions. His memory will be cherished as a hero who served his country with dedication and bravery.
