President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to embark on a return visit to the North West province on Friday, October 20, 2023, to evaluate the progress made on commitments the government undertook during the previous District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo.
The DDM visit, which focuses on integrated service delivery, will take place under the theme: “Leave no one behind” at the J.B. Marks Local Municipality in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.

This visit provides an invaluable opportunity for the President to assess the strides made in implementing the interventions announced during his visit on March 12, 2022, in Mahikeng.
During that previous visit, community members voiced a range of service delivery challenges, including issues such as water shortages, crime, gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), poor road conditions, lack of access to electricity, and the need for youth employment opportunities.
In response, President Ramaphosa, alongside Cabinet members and senior government officials, diligently recorded the concerns raised by the community, along with clear timeframes and action plans for each issue.

The President will also conduct a site visit to the upgraded water treatment works, which includes a reservoir that will serve several areas, including Ikageng Proper, Ikageng Extensions 1, 4, 5, 9, 12, Potchindustria, Mohadin, and the northern portion of Ikageng Extension 7. This reservoir is designed to accommodate future developments in the region.
The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, with a population just above 800,000 people, comprises three local municipalities: JB Marks, Matlosana, and Maquassi Hills. The district has prioritized sectors like tourism, mining, and agriculture as key economic activities. Additionally, the province’s integrated Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole is fully operational to address various service delivery challenges in municipalities.
Preceding the Imbizo, various government departments and state-owned entities will conduct a series of outreach activities led by Ministers, MECs, and Mayors across the District Municipality. These activities aim to engage directly with the community, ensuring that the concerns and needs of the people are heard and addressed.

The participation of leadership at the national, provincial, and local levels underscores the commitment to accountability among public officials and the promotion of collaborative efforts.
The DDM visit’s schedule includes a visit to the water project at the Ikageng New 25ML Reservoir in Ikageng Extension 7 at 10:00 AM, followed by a Community Imbizo at the Ikageng Sports Complex in Potchestroom at 12:00 PM.

President Ramaphosa’s visit to the North West province signifies the government’s dedication to improving the lives of its citizens and ensuring that the principles of the District Development Model are realized to create sustainable, positive change within the community.
