Public-Private Partnership Empowers Welgeval Resident with Bicycle Donation

Through a collaborative public-private partnership, the Office of the Mayor of Moses Kotane Local Municipality (MKLM), led by Cllr. Nketu Nkotswe, and employees from Old Mutual’s Rustenburg (Beyers Naudé Branch) have donated a bicycle to a local resident, Passport Kaboyana.

Mr. Kaboyana, a husband and father, was previously provided with a wheelchair by the Mayor’s Special Programs. However, he later expressed his preference for a bicycle, stating that despite his disability, he remains physically capable of riding and wishes to continue working to support his family.

The MKLM Special Programs Disability platform continues to strengthen its commitment to people with disabilities through regular support, advocacy, and empowerment initiatives aimed at improving accessibility and self-sufficiency. Mayor Nkotswe emphasized the municipality’s dedication to addressing the needs of vulnerable residents.

“This donation is a testament to the impact of collaboration between government and private sector stakeholders. We are grateful to Old Mutual’s team, led by Area Manager Ms. Elsa Sefike, for their generosity in making this possible. Their contribution ensures that Mr. Kaboyana can continue providing for his family with dignity,” said Mayor Nkotswe.

Ms. Sefike echoed this sentiment, highlighting Old Mutual’s ongoing commitment to community upliftment. “At Old Mutual, we believe in giving back and supporting initiatives that create sustainable change. We are honored to be part of this effort to improve Mr. Kaboyana’s mobility and quality of life,” she said.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Kaboyana shared how this donation has positively impacted his life. “Now, I can move more independently, check on other people with disabilities, and continue providing for my family. Your kindness has restored my hope and optimism,” he said.

The partnership between MKLM and Old Mutual showcases how meaningful collaboration can empower individuals with disabilities, fostering a more inclusive and supportive society.
