President Cyril Ramaphosa and members of his Cabinet are set to visit the North West province on 12 September 2025 as part of the National Government Programme of Action, aimed at strengthening intergovernmental relations and ensuring the implementation of the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP 2024–2029).

North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi has welcomed the visit, describing it as a crucial opportunity to align national and provincial priorities in tackling poverty, unemployment, and service delivery challenges.

“As part of addressing challenges of unemployment and poverty, the province recently adopted the Growth and Development Strategy, centered on repositioning the provincial economy through its main economic drivers – mining, agriculture, and tourism. This includes prioritizing the full functioning of the **Bojanala Special Economic Zone (SEZ),” Mokgosi said.
The Bojanala SEZ has already attracted investment commitments of more than R200 billion and is expected to create close to 20,000 jobs once fully operational.

“The SEZ, once operational, will go a long way in assisting the province to address the scourge of unemployment and poverty afflicting our communities. I have met several mining companies this year who have shown strong interest in ensuring the SEZ succeeds,” Mokgosi added.
On local governance, Mokgosi pointed to the fifth phase of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole, which seeks to strengthen municipalities struggling with infrastructure and service delivery challenges.
“Local government is critical in our developmental trajectory. Without proper infrastructure, we cannot address these challenges – hence the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme,” he said.
Mokgosi concluded by noting that the President and Cabinet’s visit will provide an important platform to secure national support for provincial growth and development initiatives.
