Rethinking tourism – opportunities await. This is the theme for this year’s Tourism Month as launched by North West’s MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Conservation and Tourism Keneetswe Mosenogi in Stonehenge Lodge in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality. Mosenogi encouraged locals to rethink tourism and find ways of participation in the sector. “If you are able to but material and see, do that. If you can turn your house into a restaurant, please do that. We have to find ways to enhance ourselves and take all opportunities presented to us,” she said.

This years theme encourages all stakeholders in the industry to reconsider the approach to tourism to be able to respond to global crises, amongst other issues.

She said while tourism industry was the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a recovery plan in place. “The recovery plan for the tourism sector is to start promoting domestic tourism. We used to have flights every hour or every two hours, these days we have only two flights a days. This tells you that the path to recovery is still a long way” she said.
