Rustenburg Executive Mayor Continues Back to School Programme to Support Needy Learners

The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Shiela Mabale-Huma, has continued her annual Back to School Programme, providing vital support to learners from underprivileged families since schools reopened this year.

The programme, a flagship initiative of the Executive Mayor, seeks to address the needs of learners from destitute families who struggle to access essential academic supplies. Each year, Mabale-Huma mobilizes stakeholders to participate in this initiative as the number of needy learners continues to grow.

This year, the programme focused on the provision of school shoes, identified as a critical necessity in many schools across the Rustenburg. Schools visited during today’s – activities included Morogong Primary in Rooikraal village, Motsitle Primary in Mamerotse village, and Tantana Primary in Tantanana village.

The Executive Mayor was joined by Virginia Mputle, MMC for Public Safety; Isabella Macone, MMC for IDP, PMS, and Legal Services; and Khoeli Libe, MMC for IGR and Special Projects. Ward Councillors and representatives from the Department of Education also lent their support to the initiative.

Speaking during the visits, the Mabale-Huma reaffirmed her commitment to improving the lives of learners, emphasizing the importance of education in shaping the future of the community.

“The Back to School Programme is a meaningful intervention that ensures learners have the basic tools they need to succeed academically. It’s about empowering our children and giving them hope,” said Mabale-Huma.

Her passion for supporting education has brought relief to numerous schools over the years, with this year’s programme continuing to make a significant impact on learners and their families. The initiative highlights the power of collaboration between government and stakeholders in addressing the needs of vulnerable communities.
