The Rustenburg Local Municipality has ended a decade-long stretch of operating with acting directors by appointing full-time directors to key positions. The appointments mark a pivotal step in speeding up service delivery in the municipality.

Municipal Manager Adv. Ashmar Khuduge formally introduced the newly appointed directors during a ceremony attended by Executive Mayor Shiela Mabale-Huma, Speaker of Council Lebogang Pule, Single Whip Cllr Rapula Makhanda, and members of the Mayoral Committee.

In his address, Adv. Khuduge highlighted the rigorous and thorough selection process that the appointed directors went through, emphasizing that they were chosen from a large pool of applicants. He stated, “The municipality has appointed the best of the best. These directors possess vast experience and knowledge, particularly in local government, which will be crucial for our municipality moving forward.”

Executive Mayor Mabale-Huma congratulated the new directors and underscored the importance of teamwork, saying, “For the municipality to provide services effectively to the Rustenburg community, the directors must work together. Their appointments bring much-needed stability after years of uncertainty.”

Council Speaker Lebogang Pule also congratulated the directors on behalf of the council, expressing confidence in their ability to lead. Labor unions, SAMWU and IMATU, were present at the event and welcomed the appointments, stressing the importance of fostering a positive working relationship between management and labor unions. Both unions affirmed their commitment to supporting the municipality’s vision of becoming a world-class city where all residents enjoy a high quality of life.
