The city was painted in shades of pink this past weekend as residents came together for the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Family Day, an inspiring community event dedicated to promoting awareness, celebrating survivors, and honouring the memory of those who lost their battle with cancer.

Organised by the Rusty White Organisation, the event drew an overwhelming turnout of residents, NGOs, and supporters from across Rustenburg, showcasing the community’s unwavering spirit of compassion and solidarity.

The day began with a symbolic awareness walk in support of cancer survivors and patients, followed by energetic aerobics and fitness sessions that set a vibrant tone for the morning. One of the most emotional moments came during the T-shirt signing ceremony, where participants wrote heartfelt messages and the names of loved ones affected by cancer — transforming their shirts into moving tributes and pledges of continued support.

Prominent figures including musician and television personality Stoan Seate delivered powerful words of encouragement, urging attendees to prioritise regular screenings and to support families impacted by cancer. Attendees were also deeply moved by testimonies from survivors, whose stories of resilience and hope underscored the importance of awareness and early detection.

Adding a special touch of unity, Supreme Barber offered free head shaves to individuals wishing to show solidarity with patients undergoing chemotherapy. The family-oriented event featured food stalls, kids’ entertainment areas, jumping castles, and live performances, ensuring that everyone — from the young to the elderly — felt part of the day’s mission of love and healing.

Guests such as Prody Letsholo added to the occasion’s warmth and sense of purpose, while participants were rewarded with medals and goodie bags containing water, fruits, energy drinks, and commemorative T-shirts.

The event culminated in a lively R&B and soul session, where laughter, dancing, and music filled the air — a perfect reflection of the day’s theme of hope through togetherness.
Speaking after the event, organisers from Rusty White expressed gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, and partners who made the initiative possible.

“This event is about more than awareness — it’s about giving hope, celebrating survival, and reminding our community that no one fights alone,” said a Rusty White representative.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Family Day served as a poignant reminder of Rustenburg’s unity and compassion — proving that together, communities can make a powerful difference in the fight against cancer.
