Right after the second visit of MEC for Education Viola Motsumi, learners of John Frylinck Secondary School came to an understanding that crime does not pay, and they were introduced to sporting activities by the school management to keep them away from being involved in criminal activities.
The school based in Huhudi (Vryburg) obtained the first position in a top-four school tournament that was organized by the Community Police Forum. Both the Chess and soccer teams of John Frylinck Secondary won the competition and the netball team obtained the second position. Secondary Schools that were participating in the tournament were John Frylinck, Pule Leeuw, Bopaganang as well as Tiger Kloof.
Parents and school management of John Frylinck are delighted by the positive impact that this competition brought to the school.
The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi emphasized that sports are a way to go in shaping the behaviour of learners.
“I take this opportunity to applaud the school management and the community policing forum for the brilliant initiative. It is important to keep learners busy in sports as a way of removing them from the challenges experienced on the streets.
Their participation in sports will teach them about tolerating each other rather than being violent against each other. Automatically their behaviour is going to change drastically”, said Motsumi.
Encouraging learners to participate in sporting activities has been a continuing motivation since the first visit of MEC of Education Viola Motsumi to the school.
The North West Department of Education is expected to launch the Sport Wednesday Games at date to be communicated in due course.
