Klerksdorp was left in shock following the tragic shooting of Sergeant Fundiswa Motlhaoleng (45), who was gunned down in Randlespark on Tuesday afternoon, 14 January 2025. The acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to Motlhaoleng’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.

Sergeant Motlhaoleng, stationed at Jouberton Visible Policing, was ambushed while driving to work in her private vehicle, fully dressed in police uniform. The incident occurred on Taljaart Kruger Street, where the crime scene revealed three empty cartridges and a bullet. The sergeant’s body was discovered with gunshot wounds to her right jaw and hand. Witnesses reported seeing a black Volkswagen Polo with four occupants fleeing the scene at high speed.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), also known as the Hawks, has taken over the case and is conducting a thorough investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
Condemning the brutal killing, Major General Asaneng described the act as “intolerable and callous,” emphasizing the devastating impact of such incidents on service delivery and the police force as a whole. He urged the investigation team to work tirelessly to apprehend those responsible and issued a stern reminder to all police officers to remain vigilant, whether on or off duty.
