The North West Department of Education has reported a smooth commencement of the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, with no major disruptions across the province. The first day of exams saw candidates begin with English Paper III, marking the start of the crucial matric examination period.

Education MEC Viola Motsumi personally visited Tlamelang Special School in Gelukspan and Kgosi Kebalepile Secondary School in Mmabatho, both located in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, to monitor the administration of the exams. Her visit was aimed at ensuring that the process ran smoothly, especially for learners with special needs.

Tlamelang Special School, which provides education to learners with special needs, has 13 candidates sitting for the NSC exams at three different centres. The learners benefit from accommodations and concessions, including an additional 20 minutes per hour, as well as access to a scribe or reader, depending on the severity of their needs. These provisions align with the South African Schools Act of 1996, the National Education Policy Act of 1996, and SAIS policy, aimed at providing equitable support to all learners.
