Swartruggens Dam Reaches Critical Low, Municipality Unable to Draw Water

The Swartruggens Dam has hit its lowest recorded water level, with the North West Provincial State of Dams report showing the dam at a mere 1.1% as of 21 October 2024. Due to this critical shortage, the local municipality can no longer extract water from the dam, leading to significant concerns about water supply in the area.

In response to the situation, water tankering services have been rolled out to ensure that affected communities continue to receive water. The municipality is actively engaging with other sector departments to seek assistance and find long-term interventions to address the water crisis.

Residents are encouraged to contact their Ward Councillor, Ward Committee, or the Municipal Customer Care line for more information on water provision in their area.

For assistance, please reach out to Municipal Customer Care at 082 926 3065 or 063 771 0771.

The municipality urges all residents to use water sparingly during this difficult time as efforts to resolve the crisis continue.
