In response to the pressing need to restore basic services in the Ditsobotla local municipality, a collaborative effort has been initiated by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), local businesses, and government representatives. A pivotal outcome of a recent meeting, this initiative aims to address the ongoing challenges threatening businesses and the community at large.

The meeting, attended by stakeholders from various spheres of government and the local business community, highlighted critical issues including water shortages, power outages, and deteriorating infrastructure. Benedict Modise, the Director of Economic Development at NWK, underscored the dire consequences of operating businesses without essential services, stressing the urgent need for intervention.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Dr. Ben Bole, Head of Department, emphasized the necessity for collaborative action to revitalize the municipality. Dr. Bole announced the establishment of a service delivery task team, comprising representatives from the municipality, provincial, and national government, tasked with developing a comprehensive strategy to address immediate challenges and restore essential services.

“We will give that task team a mandate to develop Ditsobotla comprehensive strategy on basic service delivery implementation which will be our master plan on what can be done now and address the immediate problems,” stated Dr. Bole. “We will monitor the plan as government and Ditsobotla, and we will not rest until Ditsobotla is back on track.”
The municipality, recognized as a priority by the provincial government, will receive support from both the Department of CoGTA and Provincial Treasury to improve administration and implement a financial recovery plan. Acting Municipality Manager, Sello Maroga, affirmed the commitment to restoring service delivery, outlining proposed solutions to address electricity and water supply, road infrastructure, and administrative issues.

“We must journey together to ensure that the municipality improves because even in the desert you can still find the rose,” remarked Maroga. “We can redeem the state of the municipality and ensure that it is turned around and functions effectively and efficiently.”
With concerted efforts underway, stakeholders are optimistic about the prospects of revitalizing the Ditsobotla local municipality and improving the quality of life for its residents and businesses alike. The establishment of the service delivery task team marks a crucial step towards achieving this collective goal.
