The Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) has confirmed that one of its officials, Thabo Mabe, is currently under internal investigation following allegations of improper conduct that includes corruption, GBV, asking sex favours for job opportunities at the department.

The development comes after a media statement dated March 25, 2025, surfaced around March 30. Sources close to the investigations said allegations were described as “serious allegations” that could potentially cause reputational damage to both Mabe and the department.

In a formal response, the department said an internal process has been launched to seek clarity and gather more information from Mabe, while ensuring that the legal rights of all parties involved are upheld.

“The department intends to handle this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement read. “However, for a thorough investigation to proceed, a formal complaint identifying the alleged victim must be submitted either to the department or any other appropriate authority.”

ACSR further emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence, abuse of power, corruption, and any form of misconduct, stating its commitment to protecting whistleblowers and taking decisive action where wrongdoing is confirmed.

The department appealed to the public and all stakeholders to remain calm and allow the internal processes to unfold without interference, assuring that the investigation will be conducted swiftly and within the boundaries of applicable laws.
