In a concerted effort to tackle the ongoing issue of drug trafficking, police in Ikageng near Potchestroom acted on intelligence reports, leading to the arrest of two suspects on Saturday afternoon, 5 October 2024. The operation targeted a suspected drug-dealing syndicate operating in the area.

The suspects, travelling in a Toyota Hilux, were stopped by law enforcement officers. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered bags containing over 340 kg of dagga, with an estimated street value of R5 million.

The accused, identified as Asiphe Nomde (32) and Mncedisi Mthunzini (41), appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 7 October 2024, where they were released on a warning. They are scheduled to reappear in court on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, to face charges related to the illegal possession and distribution of drugs.
