Deputy President David Mabuza has acknowledged the internal challenges faced by the ANC, some of which have been a contributing factor in the delay of the elective conference of the province which had been postponed three times. He was giving the keynote address at the party’s North West elective conference which commenced earlier this evening at the Rustenburg Civic Centre. He said the kind of challenges the ANC is facing today have never been faced by the party before.
He said while the party had faced many challenges before, they had never been so serious that they threatened the existence of the movement. “Never have our differences of opinion gone beyond the ideological conception of what the character of the soul of the ANC should look like. Never have our internal organisational fractures, leadership preferences and tactical differences posed such existential threats to the life and legacy of such a glorious movement” Mabuza said.
The widely anticipated provincial conference of the ANC in North West was off on a shaky start after the Mafikeng High Court ruled in favour of a disgruntled party member who launched an urgent court interdict to prevent members of the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) from voting at the conference.
