Yarona Rustenburg Gears Up for a Busy October Transport Month

Yarona Rustenburg is set to host a bustling October Transport Month, with an exciting array of activities aimed at promoting road safety, public transport awareness, and community engagement. Under the national theme “Doing More Together,” the campaign will bring together various stakeholders, highlighting the importance of collaboration in ensuring safe and efficient transport systems for the city of Rustenburg.

This year’s campaign will mark the arrival of Yarona Rustenburg’s newly appointed Director for Roads and Transport, Mr. Godfrey Mahlangu. With extensive experience and a passion for driving change, Mr. Mahlangu’s leadership promises to bring innovative and sustainable solutions to Rustenburg’s roads and public transport infrastructure. His appointment is a significant step towards achieving the city’s transport goals, and his vision for “doing more together” aligns with this year’s theme, emphasising the power of partnership in overcoming transport challenges.

In collaboration with key stakeholders such as Public Safety, Railway Safety Regulator, Transnet, local mining houses, and the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Public Safety Directorate, Yarona Rustenburg will host a series of impactful activations. These events will kick off on October 9th with a major activation at the R565 Traffic Circle in Boekenhoutfontein, where road safety will take center stage.

Some of the key awareness campaigns include:
Walk for Cancer: A community-focused initiative that blends health and road safety, promoting pedestrian safety while raising awareness about cancer.
J-Walking Awareness: Educating pedestrians on the dangers of crossing streets illegally and encouraging safe practices.
Level Crossing Safety: Partnering with the Railway Safety Regulator to highlight the risks at railway crossings and promote safe behaviour.
Unroadworthy Vehicles Campaign: In collaboration with Public Safety, this campaign will focus on educating drivers about the dangers of operating unroadworthy vehicles and ensuring that all vehicles on the road meet the required safety standards.

MMC for Roads & Transport, Cllr Selebaleng Pule, along with various partners, will be at the forefront of these efforts, reinforcing the message that safe and efficient transport systems are a shared responsibility. The month’s activities will be a testament to Yarona Rustenburg’s commitment to improving road safety and transport services through collaboration and innovation. “The success of our transport system relies on collaboration, innovation, and shared responsibility. Together with our stakeholders, we are committed to creating safer roads, more efficient transport services, and a stronger Rustenburg. By ‘Doing More Together,’ we can make a lasting impact on the safety and mobility of our community”, Pule
