Police officers who get drunk at work or sleep on duty in the North West Province are in for a rude awakening. The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Wessels Morweng, has initiated a series of unannounced visits to police stations across the province.

Recently, Morweng conducted a late-night oversight visit to the Klerksdorp and Jouberton Police Stations. Accompanying him were Matlosana Local Municipality Executive Mayor Fikile Mahlophe and senior management from the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Chief Directorate.

Morweng stated that his tour is aimed at engaging with both police officers and community members. “I will be visiting all police stations around the province to ensure that officers are performing their duties diligently and to address any issues raised by the community,” he said.

During his visit to Klerksdorp and Jouberton, Morweng identified personnel shortages as a significant problem. Community members also voiced their concerns about the slow response times of police vehicles when called to incidents.
This proactive approach by MEC Morweng is intended to improve police accountability and service delivery, ensuring that the residents of the North West Province can trust and rely on their local law enforcement agencies.
