As part of the City At Work service delivery programme, the Directorate of Local Economic Development, in collaboration with the Municipality’s Law Enforcement Unit, conducted a by-law compliance operation along Thabo Mbeki Street in the Rustenburg CBD today – 14 July 2025.

The inspection aimed to verify whether business owners and informal traders held valid trading licences and adhered to municipal regulations governing outdoor advertising. Several businesses were found operating in contravention of these by-laws and were issued fines for unauthorised advertising and trading without the necessary business rights documentation, as prescribed by the Rustenburg Local Municipality by-law framework.

In an effort to promote lawful trading and support formal economic participation, officials issued application forms for Outdoor Advertising Permits and Business Licensing Registration to the affected business owners during the operation.

Executive Mayor Shiela Mabale-Huma joined the multidisciplinary team on the ground to provide her support. She was accompanied by MMC Thabang Rampou, responsible for Local Economic Development, and MMC Karabo Phutu of the Technical & Infrastructure Services Directorate.

Their joint presence highlighted strong inter-departmental cooperation in ensuring that business activity within the city remains legally compliant while contributing to a safe and regulated urban environment.
