The Department of Economic Development, Environment and Conservation (DEDECT), through its Integrated Economic Development Services unit, partnered with the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) to facilitate the distribution of business tools and equipment to 131 informal traders. The event took place today at the Madibeng Local Municipality Hall as part of the Informal and Micro Enterprise Development Programme (IMEDP).

The handover ceremony, presided over by Deputy Minister Dipuo Peters, was attended by Madibeng Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Douglas Maimane, along with other council members and government officials.

Representing the beneficiaries, Ms. Matlakala from Kgabalatsane Village expressed gratitude to the DSBD for providing much-needed equipment, aligning with their mandate of advancing small enterprise development. The equipment distributed is expected to aid traders in expanding their businesses, thereby making a positive contribution to the economic growth of the sub-region and job creation.

The IMEDP, a nationwide initiative of the DSBD, aims to accelerate the growth of informal and micro enterprises across the country. Informal traders interested in applying for IMEDP equipment are encouraged to seek assistance at Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) offices and municipal LED offices.
The collaboration between DEDECT and DSBD signifies a concerted effort to uplift and support small businesses, particularly those operating in the informal sector, fostering economic resilience and entrepreneurship within local communities.
