North West Department of Education Provides Support After School Bus Accident

The aftermath of a tragic accident involving 37 learners traveling from Hopetown en route to Kimberly on April 7, 2024, continues to unfold as one teacher remains hospitalized with serious injuries. Despite the ordeal, efforts are underway to provide much-needed support and assistance to those affected.

Following the safe arrival of one of the buses in North West, the Department of Education swiftly mobilized, convening at the district office to meet with learners, officials, and MEC Viola Motsumi. With a focus on offering psychological support, a delegation from the Employee Health Wellness joined the Department in providing aid to both learners and teachers who endured the traumatic incident.

While most have returned home, one teacher is still receiving medical care in Kimberly due to the severity of their injuries sustained in the accident. MEC Motsumi expressed her sympathies and pledged ongoing support to the affected individuals and their families.

In her statement, MEC Motsumi emphasized the Department’s commitment to offering continuous care through psychosocial sessions for both learners and teachers’ families. She stressed the importance of solidarity during challenging times and assured the community of unwavering support in the recovery process.

“As a community, we will overcome this challenge,” MEC Motsumi declared, echoing sentiments of resilience and unity in the face of adversity. The Department reassured the public of its dedication to providing updates as the situation evolves, underscoring their commitment to the well-being and recovery of all involved.
